Butte College has committed a lot of resources to LGBTQIA2S+ issues. For the last 5 years, the college has committed to establishing and upholding a Queer Resource Center where students can come to receive support, gather resources, and make meaningful community relationships. Butte has also been actively partnering with the California Community College Chancellor's office to secure close to 100,000$ in additional LGBTQ+ specific funding that goes directly to supporting students and programming! This money will be invested into physical upgrades for the center, events, guest speakers, programming, and more! Butte College has displayed commitment and investment in a strong and thriving Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) club for over 10 years! The club has been up and running since 2006 and is stronger than ever with almost 50 students in the club and multiple events each semester! Butte College has also recently invested in hiring an Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Anti-Racism (IDEA) Officer. This has done a lot for the Butte College Queer Community for a few different reasons. The IDEA is extremely and openly Queer friendly, which makes students feel much more comfortable with the idea of interacting with him and going to him for help should they need it. Having an administration member who is committed to LGBTQIA2S+ issues and needs goes a long way toward making us all feel comfortable and safe here on campus.

Our Synopsis
Butte Community College has a lot of different offerings for LGBTQ+ students and allies! The Queer Resource Center offers LGBTQ+ students a lot in the way of resources and events! We offer free: safe sex products, menstrual products, pregnancy tests, snacks, school supplies, a lending library, art supplies to use, donated clothing, and more! We also offer free access to a displayed staff/faculty and student assistant outlist and pride flag and information displayed. The QRC offers multiple events a month as well as being a Queer hangout space open daily! The Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) offers multiple events where students can gather off campus in less formal settings to interact, make friends, and learn about the Queer community and its history. Butte College has a newly established Queer of Color group which will be a place for students of color who feel out of place in the typical men or women of color gatherings and events. This group is very new but it seems the focus will be on community building and using group resources to gain more access to academic and personal opportunities. The Gender and Sexuality Equity Team Committee is also a resource for Queer and Ally staff, faculty, and students. All are welcome to join the committee. Whose main operating goal is to support the QRC and Queer Butte College members!

The Campus Pride Index has a strong theoretical research foundation in LGBTQ current programs, practices and policies for safer, more inclusive campus learning environments. The index tool has been tested extensively since 2001 and recently updated with new, higher LGBTQ national benchmarks in 2015.
The Campus Pride Index is a vital tool for assisting campuses in learning ways to improve their LGBTQ campus life and ultimately shape the educational experience to be more inclusive, welcoming and respectful of LGBTQ and ally people. The index is owned and operated by Campus Pride, the leading national nonprofit organization for student leaders and campus groups working to create safer, more LGBTQ-Friendly learning environments at colleges and universities. Campus Pride commends the campuses participating in the index and their willingness to come out, be visible and actively advocate for improving higher education for LGBTQ people.
